In reply to your cypher telegram of 11th December, I
have to inform you that Governor General of Australia has te- legraphed that he is prepared to take the prisoners and interned women and children. £750 is the cost of preparing
accommodation for them and their maintenance will come to
about £1,000 a month which is about the cost here. For
somewhere about £10,000 I can arrange for their transport including return passages for their guards. I have offered to meet these charges from Hongkong funds. Should be much obliged if you would telegraph as early as possible whether you approve. Prisoners can sail on January 15th.
